What is a WhatsApp Official Business Account?

An Official Business Account (OBA) is a higher-tier WhatsApp Business account that comes with a green verified badge next to your business name. This verified status signifies to your customers that they are interacting with a legitimate and trusted business, improving customer engagement and brand trust.


Requirements to Request an Official Business Account

Before you begin, there are some key conditions you need to meet:

  1. Complete Facebook Business Verification

    • Your business must have completed Facebook Business Manager (FBM) verification. If this is not yet done, return to the previous steps to complete the FBM verification process.

  2. Maintain High-Quality Messaging History

    • Your business needs to have a strong messaging record by maintaining high-quality conversations with customers. Specifically, you must have:

      • Sent at least 1,000 conversations over a 30 consecutive day period.

      • Maintained a positive quality rating by avoiding excessive spam, user complaints, or blocked messages.

  3. Display Name Approval

    • Your business’s display name must be approved by WhatsApp. The display name is what your customers will see when you message them, and it must align with your business branding and WhatsApp’s naming guidelines.

  4. Enable Two-Step Verification

    • Make sure that two-step verification is enabled for the WhatsApp number you are requesting the OBA for. This enhances account security and helps protect your business from unauthorized access.

  5. Phone Number Requirements

    • The phone number you are requesting for the Official Business Account must already be using the correct display name.

    • If the display name is incorrect, you can change it beforehand during the WhatsApp Business Profile setup.


Steps to Request an Official Business Account

Once all the prerequisites are met, follow these steps to submit your request for an Official Business Account:

  1. Access the WhatsApp Business Dashboard

    • Log in to your WhatsApp Business Platform dashboard or the platform where your business is integrated (e.g., via Meta Business Suite or a service provider).

  2. Navigate to Business Settings

    • Go to the Business Settings section within the dashboard.

  3. Submit Request for Official Business Account

    • Find the option to request an Official Business Account (OBA).

    • Follow the prompts to submit your business details, including the verified phone number and display name.

  4. Wait for Approval

    • WhatsApp will review your request and validate your business based on the messaging history, business verification, and other requirements.

    • The approval process can take several days, during which time WhatsApp may request additional information.

Once your business is approved for an Official Business Account:

  • Your business will receive the blue verified badge on its profile and in chat thread headers, signaling to customers that your business is verified and trustworthy.

  • Your business’s messaging capabilities remain the same, but this verification adds significant credibility.

If your request is denied, you can reapply after addressing the issues identified by WhatsApp, such as message quality concerns or business verification problems.
